Reading ideas
Reading is one of the better ways to improve your grasp of vocabulary and language structure, so here are some ideas to help you get started. The trick is to read something that you are going to be successful with. Remember, your purpose in reading French is to improve your French, not to get new information or have a deep understanding of an unfamiliar concept. Choose things that you already know something about, maybe even things that you are an expert on, so that you can concentrate on how the language is used. Don't make the mistake of choosing a children's book, unless you already know the story. Just because something is aimed at kids doesn't mean the grammar and vocabulary are simple. If you like kids stories, there are lots of fairy tales we have in common, so stick with one of those. And then don't just read. Consider keeping track of new vocabulary words, writing summaries of what you understand or just telling someone else about what you read.
